You are promoting YOURSELF with the picture you provide. A “Snap-Shot” can look very unprofessional:

Avoid Dark backgrounds, No Background or backgrounds with clutter or cutting yourself out of pictures other people in them.

Taking the time to have a professional photo taken, or at least making sure that you have a simple, light colored background works best.
